Year-Round Fishing

World-Class Fishing in Every Season

Fishing in Sooke delivers year-round opportunity. From trophy Chinook and Halibut in the summer to winter feeder salmon and crab, every season offers a different experience on the water.

We plan every trip around conditions, tides, and species — not guesswork.

The Deep Water Giant

Pacific Halibut Fishing in Sooke

The ultimate deep-water prize of the Juan de Fuca Strait. Halibut fishing is a technical offshore pursuit, requiring heavy tackle, precise timing, and experienced captains who know how to position over deep structure.

Captain’s Tip:

Because halibut grounds are further offshore, we recommend combining this with a salmon trip or a full-day Halibut charter to maximize your time.

Best Trip:

Full-Day or Multi-Species Charter

Chinook (King) Salmon Fishing in Sooke

Chinook salmon are the hardest-fighting fish on the West Coast — and Sooke is one of the best places on Vancouver Island to target them. We fish kelp beds, drop-offs, and tide lines to intercept migrating and resident fish.

Captain’s Tip:

If you’re chasing 30lb+ Chinook, book summer dates early — prime weeks fill fast.

Best Trip:

Half-Day or Full-Day Salmon Charter

Winter On The West Coast

Winter Fishing Charters

Winter brings a quieter, more rugged side of the coast. With resident Chinook still feeding in local waters and the opportunity to add crab to the day, winter charters offer a relaxed, scenic, and highly rewarding experience.

Best For: Families, relaxed trips, and consistent action

Best Trip: Half-Day or Full-Day Winter Charter

Winter Chinook

Known locally as Feeder Kings, these resident Chinook actively feed through the colder months, offering consistent action when the summer crowds have gone.

Dungeness Crab

A perfect winter add-on. When conditions and regulations allow, crab traps can be set during the trip and hauled later for a proper West Coast harvest.

Comfortable Winter Runs

With enclosed cabins, heated shelter, and quieter waters, winter trips are ideal for guests who want a more relaxed day without sacrificing the fishing experience.

More Local Opportunities

More Species in the Sooke Fishery

Chinook and halibut are the headline species, but the local fishery offers plenty more action depending on the season, tides, and conditions. Often targeted on Multi-Species trips:

Coho Salmon

Fast, aggressive, and acrobatic, Coho offer exciting light-tackle action and are a favourite among anglers looking for high-energy salmon fishing.

Lingcod

A hard-hitting predator found around rocky structure, reefs, and pinnacles. Lingcod are aggressive, powerful, and excellent table fare.

Rockfish

Structure-loving bottom fish that add variety to suitable trips. These species are targeted carefully and responsibly, depending on the area, season, and current regulations.

Coastal Explorer

Wildlife On The Water

One of the best parts of spending time on the water here is everything that comes with it. See whales, seals, sea lions, bald eagles, and other coastal wildlife throughout the trip.

For families or mixed groups, it means you’re not just heading out to fish, you’re getting a full West Coast day on the water.
